• Joe Armata's guide, "Cyrillic Letters that can be confused" is especially useful for identifying handwritten Cyrillic letters. The file cyrillic, cursive

• The Colby College Libraries Cyrillic Alphabet file presents both printed and cursive Cyrillic and the name of the Cyrillic letter, along with the Roman
  equivalent letter. The file colby cyrillic.html is from http://www.colby.edu/library/collections/technical_services/wp/Cyrillic.html.
  
• The Cyrillic transliteration scheme we will use is the one presented by Boris Feldblyum in his book Russian-Jewish Given Names. It is attached as a
  file, Cyrillic Transliteration, Feldblyum.jpg
  
• Alexander Beider's transliteration scheme is given in his book "A Dictionary of Jewish Surnames from the Russian Empire". It also may prove

• JRI-Poland also shows the Russian Cyrillic alphabet with Roman alphabet transliterations. Go to http://www.jewishgen.org/JRI-PL/translit.htm.
  This site also presents the ASCII codes for typing Cyrillic characters on your computer.

In addition, the LDS Family History Library has produced a Draft Genealogical Word List for Russian. It is VERY useful. If you are unable to obtain this
through your Family History Center, and if you think it would be useful to your translation efforts, please let me know and I will mail a copy to you.

And finally, Al Bell, one of our translators, has compiled a set of web pages with very useful suggestions and guides for translating/transliterating the vital
records. I urge you to take a look at the various resources on her site (http://members.tripod.com/~allbell/illegible.html).
