My very dear ones, [
followed by Hebrew abbreviation meaning “May you live and be well”]
I’m taking a big sheet of paper so that, unlike my last
over-filled letter, which you probably received before your arrival, I have
enough space. I do not know if I have both of you to thank for the loving
family-style reception by dear Dora, which she described enthusiastically
reported, and how much you enjoyed each other, and for your very considerate
collection. The asparagus I will immediately set out in the area spaded up in
summer for my personal use, and the [illegible]. With the other dear ones
together and the bonbons are very fine, too. I am very happy, that you are all
well, that is the most important thing, and also especially that dear Max has
obtained the post of Syndikus [Dayyan] of the Hamburg Community. A heartfelt
mazel tov [written in Hebrew] and now you will soon be thinking of founding
your house [starting a family?]. I told Jenny Heidenfeld this yesterday, as she
visited us, she was here for treatment for her gas by Dr. Mird[k?]owsky, now
she’s much better, she went home today. As dear Jetty wrote you, I had a cold,
but I’m better now, with the [?] I’m also better, as I’ve been treated by Dr.
Boss … the rinses I naturally have to continue, and to accept other similar
symptoms of aging, but when it’s absolutely necessary, for which I thank dear
G-d. Jaeger and Esraele have been visiting for a week; [illegible name], who is
at the moment well again, sickened last week from Diphtheria?, thank G-d he got
the serum and with [Hebrew] help, he’s well again, but the quarantine must be rigidly adhered
to. Dear Jetty is in charge of his care, with the rising ? everything is
naturally much harder. I now have bed rest, our apartment is cold, but both
small rooms which I use are fairly warm with heat, 15-15 degrees R.
It’s a good thing that the unpleasant affair with the boiler
was before the big cold spell, and that now everything’s working properly for
you. As I already wrote you, [can’t read 2 sentences] Dear Lenchen helps me
very much and I have now for ? a young [illeg] of strength as help, a [?] dear
Selina. So that you can see that we also are comfortably serene, I’m sending
you [?] from dear Jetty and Lenchen [?] made by the dear little children. Now may
live and be well [this phrase was in Hebrew] well for today, further all good

It hasn’t been soooo very long since we wrote you, - you’ve gotten the card from
before dear Dora’s arrival – but I write again willingly. Especially when I can
wish you [plural] and you, dear Max [Hebrew word] most cordial mazel tov to
your [illegible] Post. Now find yourself
a nice, frum, pretty Kalle! Your letter was really endearing. You can imagine
what interest it aroused in Iaci [] and Esrale. But they didn’t eat all the bonbons - the others
will also get some, there’s enough. I notice that today I have to correct my
writing constantly, I don’t know why, but I’d better close. Let us hear nice
things from you again soon, and in the meantime be cordially greeted and kissed
by your wishing you [Hebrew] Helene
