Letters from Lida - 42Dear children!
Thank God, I can congratulate you, Lisa gave birth to the
baby boy without complications at night on 19th of this month.
Wednesday morning we received a telegram from Boria, and then a letter from
Boria, Schena, and Dina where they write that everything went without
complications and that Lisa feels well. Boria also writes that the boy is
beautiful but the Bris cannot be now because he has to gain some weight, his
weight is only 5 pounds. Frida was planning to go to visit her but because we have
a very cold frost she is afraid to leave me alone in a cold, and Papa cannot be
on a cold at all and that is why she did not go. As soon as, God’s will, it
would not be so cold, on the first occasion she will go and will try to spend
there about two weeks to get to the Bris and clean up. She <Lisa> is
still in the hospital. Congratulations on your guest and please give heartfelt
regards from all of us. We have now very significant cold. Papa feels better
but still is not supposed to go out in the cold. Dorechka, I am planning to
write you a letter in details, but today I just don’t have time. Be healthy and
happy according to the wish of loving you mama Revekka.
Congratulations to all of you with the birth of your new
nephew. Let God him to bring us only health and joy. Dorechka, we never had
such cold winter as this year –it is –20 –-25o<-4 o - -13 o
F>. It is very cold, we use a lot of firewood and it is still cold in the
rooms. I am afraid to be late to send this letter. With loving kisses, loving
you all, Frida. Gitel does not stop thinking about you, dear Dorechka. Every
day she writes you letters asking you to come and writes that she is coming to
see you. She, thank God, is a very good
and smart girl. She fills the whole house with joy and happiness. Next time I
will try to write you more. Dorechka, write to us how do you work and how do
you live. Do not be shy and eat at Fanya’s for now. I am writing this because I
know you too well. Fanechka, look after her, make sure that she doesn’t go
hungry, she is so timid. With loving kisses, Your Frida.
This letter can be
dated by the October 1936 letter that mentions Lisa’s pregnancy [letter 20].
That it refers to this pregnancy & not another can be inferred by the
advice to Dora – as if her arrival in
Palestine is still recent – and by mention of their father’s condition, which
was also a topic of other letters from this year. The 19th to which
it refers is mos likely
