Letters from Lida - 69

Translated by Lena Gorina-Black

Dear Dorechka!

Why is it that we did not receive a letter from you this week? Are you healthy? Probably your guests arrived and you are so busy that you don’t have time to write. Is Fanechka at home or still traveling? How expensive this court case and travel are! It is such a pity to spend money on all this! May God change it for the best. We have now a real winter, it is very cold, and our place, as you know, is not in a very good shape, so it does not matter how much we heat it up - it is still cold. We would have to do a lot of things to get the house <or apartment> in order, but I don’t even think about it – I don’t know myself where my thoughts are now. I pray to God that the winter will end soon. For all of us it is very hard. Papa cannot go outside when it is cold and because of that, of course he is even more nervous. Thank God, that this year the winter started late <here it means – cold weather>, but it still will last for 2 and half month.  Gitele, thank God, is developing very well and in my opinion is, sure, a clever child. She can’t stop talking about you. Once she wants to go to you, then she wants us to write you that you have to come back, so she remembers you very well. Lisa does not have any news yet, but I think that it is going to be very soon. May God make everything well. <Possibly, Lisa is expecting and Frida  writes about a future child. It was a bad omen to talk about it directly>. Write us, Dorechka, about everything. What impression do you have of Manfred’s sister? Where are you all living in Fanechka’s place? How big it is? Is X (1) happy? Gitele talks about X constantly. Dorechka, why you don’t write me? Do you all have friends? Does anybody <one or some men> pays you special attention? Do you have girlfriends and did you get used to your life a little? May God give you great happiness. Do you read and do you study? How are your eyes? Do you wear your glasses? At home everything is the same, I only pray to God that everybody would be healthy. Meilach is busy all day. There is no special news in Lida. May God give you and Fanechka good news. Dear Fanechka, congratulations with the arrival of your guests. How are they in your opinion? Did the <Manfred’s> sister change over the time and how is her health <?>. Give her our heartfelt regards.  Write me, Fanechka, if you are going to come home for Passover. How is your health and the health of X and Manfred? You are using lately that Dorochka writes us and you don’t write at all. How did you find Dorechka? Did she change since she came to Palestine or is she still as stubborn as when she was born?  May you all be healthy and happy, and have everything good. Kiss you with love, loving Frida. Meilach and Gitel send regards.

Dear children!

Today I just have so much work that I only will send all of you my love and heartfelt regards with the wishes of very, very best. Loving you mama Revekka.
