Letters from Lida - 76

Sunday, <January 2, or January 9,date is unclear>, 1926

Fanechka, my dear, on Thursday we received you letter with your congratulations for Lisa, as well as for the New Year. All your wishes are mutual, same to you. There was a New Year celebration in Lida but I stayed at home, I was very tired and decided to have a good sleep. I imagine how it was joyful for you at the wedding. Fanechka, dear, all the time I felt some premonition, what if you open an envelope and the note will come out of it? But thank God, you are interested in knowing everything, and I am terribly not in a mood to write. It is after-dinner time here, the groom’s sister had dinner with us, she is still at the uncle’s place, and Risa <?> and Chaia just came in, so I am writing to you and at the same time answering their questions. I will describe to you the latest events. Yesterday we played cards until 2 am at uncle Shimshim’s, all ours were there, Taibochka, Uidel, Maslovaty, and someone from Lev <?>. The family consists of 2 brothers, himself and his younger brother Joseph who is in Paris now, then 2 sisters, Ania and the older sister who has married Tarkovsky. Fanechka, it is hard to describe, what an intelligent person he is, he is a rare person on every account, he is a beauty and the pride of his family. Anyone could be proud such in-law like that. The family is very intellectual and devoted to each other. And  happiness is in the God’s hands anyway! We hope entirely that God won’t abandon us. And in her life she saw very little happiness but, God’s will, now she will be happy. So far nobody is getting ready for the wedding, because every day is busy, first in the house, then with Ania. We go to bed very late, we try to make her happy. Rojansky’s bride was also here; her name is Frida; she is a very interesting young woman with incredible an figure, and although her eyes are not pretty, she looks good. She wears very rich clothes, and she is very well developed. Does she has any substance, I don’t know, because I know her very little, but I have an impression that she is not very well behaved. She visited us very often and already left. They are planning a wedding in a couple of months. This is so strange, they really are not a good couple, but he is such a fool that does not understand anything. He visits us rather often. I never met in my life a fool like that. Well, God be with him, he is not going to be happy, and nobody can envy him. Fanechka, don’t forget your promise, as soon as you touch the money, you will come home, and I will live by the hope that we will see each other soon. It was very nice of you employers to give you such a good present, you probably worked very hard.
