Podwo³oczyska is included in the Suchostaw Region Research Group (SRRG).  Shtetlach were interwoven together like a tapestry and the Jewish people of neighboring shtetlach linked by marriages, trade and marketing.  They shared schools, cemeteries, kosher butchers, bakers and more.  Smaller shtetlach registered their birth, marriages and death in a nearby larger shtetl.  One should research the neighboring area as well as an individual shtetl.  The SRRG web site has resources and information that is relevant to many shtetlach.  To search for family links and learn more about neighboring shtetlach, please visit the Suchostaw Region Research Group (SRRG).

History and Geography:

Holocaust:
  • Podwoloczyska was captured by the Germans in July 1941. About 70 Jews were put to death immediately The Germans imposed severe economic restrictions. Several streets were marked off by barbed wire and the Germans established an extension of the Kamionki forced labour camp. Young Jews were taken to the forced labour camp and many died from overwork, disease, and torture. In September 1942 a part of the camp population was transferred to Zbaraz and Kamionki and were later killed. The Podwoloczyska labour camp was liquidated on June 29, 1943.
