Most of the names in the first column have the German spelling from the 1910 Ethnographic map of Bukovina. You can confirm this by checking if there is a reference to 1910 in the last column. The 1910 map was color coded. Y meant that there were Jews in the community (indicated by notation, “Y 1910”). The second column has alternate spellings. The spellings with a (N) or a (V) come from the JewishGen ShtetlSeeker where N means “Native” and V means “Variant.” After WW II the southern part of Bukovina became Suceava Judete in Romania and the northern part became the Chernivetska Oblast of the Ukraine. You can find this information In the Country column.
