First Steps

There are many aids on the Jewish Genealogy Website and on the Internet that can aid a researcher.

Those researching their families in the Drohobycz Administrative District should first consult the following:

The JewishGen
Family Finder

The Family Finder is an invaluable resource. You may search under your family names or by towns of origin. There you will find others who are searching for the same names in the same towns. You may contact these people by email and if you register your information in the Family Finder, others searching these names may contact you.

Jewish Records Indexing-Poland

Jewish Records Indexing-Poland is an invaluable resource of Polish vital records and other information. The volunteers in this group have

Existing birth. marriage and death records for Galicia are located in the Archiwum Glówne Akt Dawnych (AGAD) in Warsaw and the archive in Lviv. Until the end of 2006, the records in Warsaw were being indexed with the cooperation of AGAD and JRI-Poland. This program has been terminated. In 2006 the LDS Family History Library microfilmed the records in the lviv archive. these are int he process of being indexed by JRI-Poland.

The All Poland Database can be used as a one-stop service for all databases on the Jewish Genealogy website that relate to Poland.

Gesher Galicia

Gesher Galicia is the special interest group for all towns in the former Austrian province. Membership allows you to receive a yearly Family Finder that has extensive lists of information about the family names and towns of its members. You may also wish to register as a member of the Gesher Galicia Discussion group to receive regular postings about Galician genealogy.

Borislav, Drogobych, Sambor & Vicinity Research Group

For those interested in the Drohobycz Administrative District in the vicinity membership in the Special Interest Group for Drohobycz, Boryslaw, Sambor and other towns is strongly recommended.


Yizkor Books

Jewish genealogy's Yizkor book site has two books about Drohobycz and Boryslaw and other towns in the district. the translations, which ahve been done by volunteers with the project manager, Valerie Schatzker, are not yet complete.
