Chaia bat Shmuel-Nokhim Gafinowitz, born 1890, from Kupiskis, and Mendel ben Iankel Feldman, born 1878, from Plissa, were married on June 20, 1914, in Kupiskis. Mendel had left for South Africa in 1905 and returned in 1913 to locate a wife. He found his match in Chaia and returned with her to Johannesburg, South Africa.

Chaia’s family lived on the market square in Kupiskis. Her brother Falke Gafinowitz, his wife and son were killed in 1941, but their daughter Anna survived and went to Israel.

The Feldman family was active participants in the Kupiskis Society in Johannesburg.
