An Eisiskes Resident Marries in Vienna

donated by Irene Newhouse

I  was searching in Viennese Jewish marriages for the marriage of one of my maternal [not Belarusian] relatives, Marie Josefine Klein.  I found the marriage of a different Marie Klein to a resident of Eisiskes in 1913!  The half of the double-page entry relating to the groom is reproduced below from LDS film 1349864.  The marriage took place in one of the Shuls in Vienna's 2nd district - the one on Leopoldstrasse 29 - on 5 October 1913.  The groom is Ignaz KUNITZ-ALBERTYNSKI, a merchant born in Eischischki, Russia, of Russian citizenship.  His parents are not named, although it was the common practice to do.  He was born on 25 July 1871, and had a Viennese residence [last column].  The 4th column, the narrow one filled with cramped writing, is for "date and place of the offer of marriage & exact transcription of the documents presented".  I can only make out that Mr. Kunitz-Albertynski presented a document signed by the Rabbi of Slonim.  No formal birth certificate seems to have been presented.

Most of us are prepared to find our Lida area relatives in the US.  This document indicates there are other places they may have gone!
