Surname Index, Page 1 by Deborah Glassman, copyright 2007, 2008
The Surname Index is a specialized index of the Lyakhovichi Shtetl pages. It to-date includes dozens of tables of hundreds of people each, who appear with surnames in records related to Lyakhovichi. This index does not yet include pages added in May or November 2008 which are separately indexed on our page New Names Indexed November 2008. All indices created for these pages are copyright to Deborah Glassman and they may not be reproduced or included in a larger index without her written permission.
Though the number of pages will change as we add more and move info around, you can find the current surname indices as follows including an Introduction and Late Additions:
The Surname Index You are Here

You also have the resources of a whole-domain search for finding the latest additions to given names and surnames on our site (including in photo captions) using GOOGLE.COM. SEE INSTRUCTIONS AND EXAMPLES ON OUR PAGE Website Indices
This All-Page Surname Index has gone through some evolution. We continue to create additional indices to information on our pages, to better access information about our Lyakhovichi relatives. Please use the box in the left hand corner, to quickly link to many of our other "people finding tools" including the Given Name Index; a series of Patronymic tables that include both analyses and indexing of those who were fathers to Lyakhovichi residents; and specialized lists. There are over two hundred pages on this website and thousands of separate objects - images, pages, maps, et al, stored on the server for this website.
There are many ways to continue to improve this index though we have added a number of features since its original appearance. We have made the page easier to read by reducing its width. We have created a separate series of indices organized by Given Name, and unified the information from a dozen different immigration tallies. The Patronymic Tables were created to be more than indices, they are a part of an ongoing effort to increase our knowledge about each of the people named as fathers in Lyakhovichi records. You are at the Surname Index and on its pages you will find the listing of every Jew whose surname was given or can be understood, named in our pages.
We are still working out best approaches to bringing name variations together - for instance a surname like "Elina" is spelled variously - Elin, Allen, Jelin, Yellin, et al, - and so all of those variants have been brought together. We will be going back into the records and noting where you should look for a spelling variant that might have been moved to bring it together with others in its category.
You can continue to help with this process. If you know of a name that is a variant of a different spelling indexed on another page, please let us know. Is your Paley also a Faley in some records? Is Aizikowitch also an Itzkawicz? Share your hard-won discoveries.
Links are being added to each entry of the Surname index across all of the pages. We had finally completed the process but now have to start again as page names have changed and old links take you to forwarding pages. Any page on our website that is not indicated as a link by blue lettering, can still be identified by its title and found in the Article Index or from a Key Page. Many original records are linked from the button labeled Documents in the left-hand column of every page. The Documents Key page contains a list of all of the Revision Lists, Migration Records, Tax Lists, et al.
