This database's pages are divided by by organization, by cemetery, and by the row divisions of that particular set of plots. So you will see that the table on this page is for Bnai Isaac Anshe Lechowitz, Washington Cemetery, Row 1 and Row 2. The next page will cover Bnai Isaac Anshe Lechowitz, Washington Cemetery, Row 3, 4, 5, 6. All of the Bnai Isaac Anshe Lechowitz plots in multiple cemeteries will be offered and then we will return to Washington Cemetery when we have the next landsmanschaft with plots in that particular cemetery.

If your ancestor is buried in a Lechovicher plot

Does that mean they were definitely from Lyakhovichi? No, it could mean that they were married to a Lechovicher or that a child-in-law was a Lechovicher. Some of the graves used in more recent years could have been donated to someone who had a pressing need, or sold when the original lot holder was buried elsewhere.

If your ancestor is not buried in a Lechovicher plot

Does that mean they were definitely not from Lyakhovichi? No, there are many reasons someone would not be buried in a plot owned by one of the known landsmanschaften. They could have had plots from a spouse's society. They could have enjoyed the company of one group more than another. They could have associated with a non-origin specific group that offered burial plots, they could have lived and died in a city where no such organization existed, they could have died while resident elsewhere. Even when buried amidst a group of landsmen such affiliation might not be immediately obvious if the group to which they belonged identified itself as Minsker, Russian, or some larger group to which Lechovichers also belonged.

Row 1 was for married men

Row 2 was for married men through the 1963 burial of Philip Jersky. A few years earlier his brother-in-law had been buried near the end of that line and then there was a long period of time when there were no burials there at all. Finally the two sisters who had been married to those two men were buried with double stones next to their husbands in the 1970s and 1990s and the final grave was offered to a late purchaser in 1987 for a married man.

Row 3 seems to have been used for married couples from its inception. There are a two graves that were assigned to individuals in the 1980s that had not been previously used, but everyone else in that line is a married couple, almost always with a double stone

Row 4 appears to be a married females row but the last two stones in the line belong to a married couple with a double stone.

Row 5 is another married females row with an empty grave that was sold in the 1980s for a male and the row is finished by a very large family stone for two people, one of whom was male.

Row 6 was a children's row but only 6 of 60 stones survive.
