house 27 and 26;  Dovidas (David) Maizeliai (Maizel) and Šalimas (Shlomo)

David and Shlomo Maizel  ran their own mill producing electricity and because of this the inhabitants of Pakruojis got electricity in their houses. They considered this as very modern and felt very excited about it! The mill was built in the new part of Pakruojis. The factory was smaller as it is, now. In those days there were about 80 workers.

The family Maizel lived next to the mill. See Chapter 8 for more information and photos.

house 30 here lived  Giršas Wolkas (Vilkas Wolk, )

In his shop,  people could buy pottery and socks. In his courtyard, he kept all kinds of materials. One name of a child is known: Hindka, a daughter. She was a dear friend of Rivka Shapiro.

Before 1935, Wolk and his family lived in house nr.85 which doesn’t exist, anymore.

Next to the house of Wolk were the old wooden houses of Galas Bencelis, at nr. 31 and of Arulovicius Bencelis at nr. 33.

A bit further, at nr. 40, lived Dovidas Vasarmanas. His house was, also, made of wood.

From the house of  Bencelis we cross the Dariaus ir Gireno gatve and we are watching house nr. 86.

barn of house 86 and the spot where the Jewish men were imprisonned in 1941

Near to the house 86, there was an ordinary bar, as we were told, but this house-bar doesn’t exist anymore
