Crossing the Prahova and Azuga valley, this industrial city, situated amidst
fir forests, was called "Intreprahove" in the late 18th century. The most
populace locale in upper Prahova valley in 1830, by 1884 Azuga was part
of Podul Neagului commune, then Predeal commune. The present name Azuga
began in 1881 following the opening of the railway in 1879. The town also
is known for a glass factory (1830), a thick-cloth factory (1866), a hydraulic
lime factory (1884), a brewery (1870), champagne production (1850), trout
breeding in Azuga River, and winter sports. The current town population
is 6,200.
