A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS
| Please remember to include your Full Name and Email or Postal address, and indicate which images are to be used in the main section of our Witbank web site, and which images are for your individual Family page. Do not send your original photos to me, as they might get lost in the mail. |
| You can email your images files to me, as attached files, or copy (burn) high resolution image files to a CD-ROM and then mail the CD-ROM to me via regular mail. | ||

This is what I suggest:
| This web site will be eventually be hosted by JewishGen and we will abide by their rules and donor agreements. Visit JewishGen if you are not familiar with their web site. | |
| 1 | Visit this web site for Scanning Photos and Documents to learn more about scanning |
| 2 | There is an info file on JewishGen, click HERE, that describes image creation and handling. While written for the Yizkor book project, some of it's contents could also be applicable to our project. |
| 3 | You can scan photos at 72 dpi
resolution. This resolution is good enough to view images on the internet,
but not for printing photos. To be able to print photos from your scanned
photo image files, scan your photos at 300 dpi resolution. This is what I do. I scan all my important photos and documents at 300 dpi resolution, to my computer. I copy (burn) all these image files to a blank CD-ROM. I then make extra copies of my photo CR-ROMs, for my descendants. Once I have 300 dpi resolution image files on my computer, it is easy to resize and convert these files to 72 dpi resolution, for emailing and viewing on the internet. Why scan twice, once at 72 dpi and again at 300 dpi. Scan at 300 dpi to begin with, and save your image files on CD-ROMs, so that your descendants can print high quality family photos. If necessary, I can edit your 300 dpi resolution image files, for you. |
| 4 | As a last resort, make copies of your photos at your local photo dealer, and mail the copies to me, so that I can scan them. |
