When the immigrants from Eastern Europe arrived in the United States, people from the same shtetls would tend to move to the same areas and they would form "landsmanschaften" for mutual support. From Yiddish, landsman means a fellow from the same country and a landsmanschaft is an organization of fellow countrymen. One of the functions of a landsmanschaft is arranging for funeral plots for its members. The Zalishchyky society has a burial area in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Queens in New York City. The address of the cemetery is 13004 Horace Harding Expressway and the phone number is 718-939-9405. The actual name of the society is "Erste Zaliszczyker Rabiner Hager."
The Jewish Genealogical Socity of New York has posted a list of 8 Zaleshchiki burial areas in New York City.
