on the Web...go to the JewishGen homepage,
http://www.jewishgen.org    and in the Discussion Group section
click on  Special Interest Group (SIG) Mailing Lists -  which
takes you to the Managing Your Subscription Page.  Click on
Subscribe  and the webform takes you through the process where
you enter your name, e-mail address and select the mailing list
to which you want to subscribe...then hit the submit request
button.  From this same location, you can use the "Modify Subscription"
to set your subscription to "digest", or temporarily stop receiving mail
from the list.

via e-mail...    send a message to  listserv@lyris.jewishgen.org
no subject line needed unless you are an AOL user in which case
put a dot or comma to meet their requirements and in the message
just state:

subscribe ciechanow   (your first name)  (your last name)

In both cases you will receive a subcription confirmation from
Lyris instructing you to return their message with  the word ok
and whatever number you were assigned in the subject line.

Once this is done you will receive the Welcome Statement with
instructions on how to post  messages to the entire group.
