Longitude: 24° 01' East;
Location:
51.61 kilometers (32 miles) west of Ivano-Frankivsk,
496.77 kilometers (308 miles) west-southwest of Kiev
Variant Spellings:
Dolyna (Ukr, Ger); Dolina (Pol, Yid, Rus)
 
Dolina's history extends back to the tenth century.
Four hundred years later the city became known for its salt mines.
Dolina was ruled by Poland from the mid-14h to the late 18th century.
After World War II the city was incorporated into the U.S.S.R.,
becoming part of Ukraine; it continues in that status.
Oil deposits were discovered in the region in the 1950s.
Dolina was home to a vibrant Jewish community until the German occupation.
