| The Skala Research Group (SRG), whose members are individuals with ancestors who lived in the Skala shtetl, is happy to announce the building of a new wall to protect the Jewish cemetery in Skala Podil'ska, Ukraine. A wall had previously been erected by members of the Skala Benevolent Society when its president was Max Mermelstein z”l. This wall, built almost 30 years ago, had deteriorated and needed to be replaced. The new wall was funded by members of the SRG and the European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative (ESJF), led by Philip Carmel and funded by the European Union, which gets the majority of its funds from Germany. The building of the new wall was managed by Kyiv resident Alex Bessarab and was overseen by ESJF. SRG members contributed most of the funding. |
