Gamsu

My grandfather  Elchanan Velvel Gamzu was born in Plungyan in 1870.   The Gamzu family was well known there - quite a large family.

My grandfather thereafter lived in Mazeikia (nearby) when he got married and then to Israel but there were other siblings of my grandfather who were born in Plungyan .

In fact the father of Dr. David Gamsu, a very well known neuro surgeon and Israel  Gamsu, a pharmacist namely Leib Hirsh Gamzu was born in Plungyan in 1873 and lived in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In Lithuania the surname was Gamzu and in South Africa changed to Gamsu.
