1946 V-E Day Anniversary
Journal of the
Chicago Polonner Prog.
Aid Society

Donated by: Randy Ford

The Polonner Prog. Aid Society published this V-E Day Anniversary Journal on May 5, 1946 (Mother's Day).  There was probably an accompanying event since the Logan Square Masonic Temple of Chicago, Illinois is listed on the front page.  Inside there is both a list of Polonners that served in the war (either for the U.S. or Russian military) with accompanying photos of each soldier as well as the names of the officers and organizers of the Chicago Polonner Prog. Aid Society at the time.  The following text is included:

This Album is Dedicated
to the Mothers of Our
Victorious Children in Service

Mother's Day 1946
THERE IS EVER ONE WHO WAITS,
WHEN ALL IS DARK AND DEATHLIKE,
THRU THE DARKEST OF THE STRUGGLE
THE ETERNAL SOLDIER STOOD FIRM
IN HOPE AND THOUGHT.

WITH LOVED ONES RETURN
FROM BATTLES' WOE
SHE GAINS SURCEASE
FROM ENDLESS DAY OF WAITING
FOR THE MOMENT OF PEACE

NOW FOR ALL, TOGETHER AGAIN
STRENGTH IS RENEWED, RESOLUTION HIGH
THAT WE GO FORWARD, UNITED
WITH SHE WHO KEPT CONSTANT VIGIL,
FOR A WAY OF LIFE.

In Gratitude
To you women and men now returned to
family and friends from long days of
national service we extend our warmest
welcome and best greetings.

During our gatherings of past years
we often spoke of the time when all
of us would be together again.

The heartache has eased,
the day of meeting is happily here.

We give thanks that you are civilians
once again and know that peace will
remain our way of life if we remember
the past and unite for the future.
