Avrum Garber Family, New York City, NY. Probably taken at 232 Madison Street, Nuchum (Nathan) Garber's apartment, on the Lower East side. This is purported to be a gathering of the clan upon Avrum's arrival in the United States in November 1922. The two unknowns (the man and girl on the left) may be relatives from the mid-west. Family lore suggests their surname might have been Utchenik or, possibly, Reznik. Research indicates that Utcheniks were originally from Novograd-Volynsk, Ukraine.

Fanny Garber Buchman (1901-1989).

Fanny (Feigah) Garber (also picture in the group photo, above), youngest daughter of Avram Garber and Anna Mazewitsky Garber, was born in Labun. Shortly after her mother died, she emigrated to NY with her brother Aaron (Eddy). They traveled 2nd class on the Lapland and landed in New York on 2 Apr 1922. She married Max Buchman in NY in 1926 and had two daughters. Died August 1989 in Florida.

Perl Garber Zabarsky (1888-1941).

Born in Labun. Daughter of Avrum Garber and Anna Mazewitsky Garber. Married Gritsev native Isseck Zabarsky (1876-1971) in 1911. Isseck arrived in the USA in 1935 and was unable to get Perl and his four children (Usher, Leib, Motel & Chana) out of the Soviet Union. Perl and at least two of her children, Chana and Ber, were murdered in Labun in 1941.

Usher Zabarsky (1914-2004) and one of his brothers

Usher, son of Perl Garber Zabarsky and Isseck Zabarsky and born in Labun, was drafted into the Soviet Army during WWII. After WWII he lived in Odessa. He became a nuclear physicist. In 1972, he, his wife Nina, and his two daughters emigrated to Israel.

Sarah Garber Giller (1892-1960) and her niece Lilly Garber (1909-1995).

Born in Labun, Sarah married Zalman Giller (1893-1972) and lived in Labun. They had three sons: Simon, Efim, and Vladimir. Before 1940, Sarah and Zalman relocated to the nearby shtetl of Starokostyantyniv. In June 1941, they were evacuated to Troitsk, Chelyabinsk, USSR. They resided in Chelyabinsk until their deaths.

Lilly (also picture in the group photo above) emigrated to the United States with her family in 1912. This picture was probably taken shortly before their departure.
